Solar Radiation Modification

“SRM is a proposed “emergency brake”” for the climate that could rapidly lower global temperatures, but offers no solution to the root cause of emissions."

Solar Radiation Management (SRM), also known as solar geoengineering, refers to a set of proposed technologies designed to cool the Earth by reflecting a small fraction of incoming sunlight back into space. The most prominent methods include Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI), which mimics volcanic cooling, and Marine Cloud Brightening (MCB). While SRM could theoretically lower global temperatures rapidly, it does not address ocean acidification or the root cause of climate change: greenhouse gas emissions. Consequently, it is widely viewed not as a solution, but as a potential—yet highly controversial—temporary supplement to mitigation efforts.

We are interested in the intersection between climate modeling and governance of SRM.
